Let the ‘Purple Snowflakes’ Fall…Marvin Gaye styles!!
What better gift to receive than the gift of previously unexplored music. Listening to the radio today I received that gift in the form of Marvin Gaye’s seasonally appropriate gem ‘Purple Snowflakes’. Dafunky Situation would like to wish you and yours all the best this holiday season and nothing but good vibes in the 2012. With that being said I would like to take you back to 1964 with the sweet sounds of Marvin Gaye. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
This ‘Holy Ghost!’ knows how to PARTAY!
These guys kept the party going for me all summer and made me real proud to be a child of the big hair, tie-dye jean, synth filled 80′s. Shit these guys got me doing the whiteman two-step swing yourself into the floor dance all night long – what you don’t know that one? Yeah you do! Even non-caucasian peoples have been reported doing that shit in discos all over the world before this synth infused dance-pop became popular again. Hey I’m not knocking it, can’t get enough. Here is Holy Ghost! with ‘Wait & See’, off their self titled 2011 LP. Who ever decided to put their fathers in this NYC based vid is a fucking genius… awesome stuff.
SBTRKT – Wildfire
Had to drop this one on ya’ll! Here is a lovely tune entitled ‘Wildfire’ from the London, UK based SBTRKT. He recently talked about his sound on Last.fm saying:
” The main thing are the synths, arrangement and syncopation. I tend to play around with chords or pads first, and then start applying some drums to it. Even though I guess I write ‘bass music’ I tend to add bass in last; rhythm and arrangement are most important for me. A lot of people seem to mention ‘2 step’ alongside my name guess it’s just because of the syncopation that genre entailed.”
Whatever the recipe may be its seems to be working for SBTRKT who plays a soldout show at The Hoxton tonight in Toronto. There may be a limited amount of tickets at the door.
Video and the song are tight. Little Dragon kills the vocals. Try it you’ll like it!
Future Islands
This week I share with you a video from ‘Future Islands’, a Synthpop band based out of Baltimore, Maryland. They have just released their new album entitled ‘On the Water’, off Chicago’s independent Thrill Jockey label. These guys have been getting a lot of well-deserved airplay on my personal favourite college radio station 89.5 FM University of Toronto radio – found on the web at CIUT.FM. Here you can find some of the best damn music out there… good shit you just will not hear anywhere else… not the shitty shit that pisses you off on the ‘other’ corporate stations. Go on friends check’er out, take it from me, a long-time listener and fan of community supported radio and all who provide an outlet for the otherwise unheard. ‘Dreaming In Stereo’ is my go-to for the latest in Indie tunes (Fridays 3 – 5 pm). With no further ado here is Future Islands with their super sexy, sleek and summery –-I know let go already — video for their super funky, shake yo ass tune ‘Balance’.
